Few trips cross as many borders as a Europe holiday. Paris to Amsterdam by train, a week in Italy, a detour to Switzerland: with a local SIM, that could mean a new card in every country. A regional eSIM covers the whole route with one plan.
How a regional eSIM works
A regional eSIM is a single data plan that works in every country on its list. When you cross a border, your phone switches to a partner network in the new country automatically. There's nothing to buy, swap or reinstall.
Your data allowance and plan days are shared across the whole trip, so you can use 2 GB in France and 5 GB in Spain from the same plan.
Which countries does the Europe plan cover?
Our Europe plan covers 42 destinations, including:
- Western Europe: France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Ireland and the United Kingdom
- Nordics: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands
- Central and Eastern Europe: Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania
- The Mediterranean: Greece, Malta, Cyprus and Türkiye
- Microstates: San Marino and Vatican City
The full, current list is on the Europe eSIM page. Always check it against your itinerary before you buy.
Not on the list?
If your route includes Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina or North Macedonia, look at our Balkans plan, which covers those along with neighbours like Croatia, Greece and Türkiye. Visiting Europe as part of a longer trip? A Global plan covers 100+ countries in one eSIM.
Does EU "roam like at home" apply to me?
The EU's roam-like-at-home rules apply to SIMs issued in EU countries. If your phone plan is from Australia, the US or elsewhere outside the EU, your carrier's normal international roaming rates apply in Europe, which is exactly why a travel eSIM is worth having.
How much data for a Europe trip?
- 1–2 weeks, maps, messaging and some social media: 5–10 GB
- 3–4 weeks, or heavy social media and video calls: 10–20 GB
- Working remotely with a laptop hotspot: 20 GB or more
Our data guide breaks down what each app uses.
Tips for multi-country trips
- Leave automatic network selection on. Your phone will pick a partner network in each country.
- After crossing a border, give it a minute. If data doesn't come back, toggle Airplane mode on and off.
- Ferries and cruises: on board, ships often use their own maritime network, which travel eSIMs don't cover. Your eSIM picks up again in port.
- Keep your home SIM's data roaming off so your carrier can't charge you.
Setting up
- Pick your plan on the Europe eSIM page.
- Install it at home on Wi-Fi, then keep the line switched off.
- When you land in your first country, switch the eSIM on, select it for mobile data and turn on data roaming for the eSIM line.
